To answer this problem using the Pyth. Thm., we must assume that the angle opposite the hypotenuse is a right angle. Otherwise the P. T. does not apply.

The length of the hypotenuse is √(5^2 + 5^2) cm, or √(25 + 25) = √50,

or 5√2 cm.
